| AQi Fzono |
"The
Minstrel of Diode", a Japanese-born composer and synthesist,
AQi Fzono is best known for his pioneering synthesizer
music album series called "Synthesizer Symphony". Epic, ambient, surreal and dramatic - his music
has created it's own genre. His suite-style voluminous works that
contain fantastic and vast-scaled sounds has been categorized as "Synthesizer music", "Space music", "Neo-classical",
"Symphonic Techno","Symphobient" (The word "Symphobient"
comes from a fusion of "symphonic" and "ambient") and "Progressive Electronica". |
Born in Kyoto, Japan in 1969.
AQi started learning piano when he was five years old and composing
his own music at six.
In 1987 - 1991, Fzono stayed in Europe (mainly in West Germany), learned Philosophy, Aesthetics and History of Art in Cologne, Munich and Berlin. Fzono studied music under Toshiro Mayuzumi, Ikuma Dan and Toru Takemitsu in Japan, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Mauricio Kagel in Germany.
In 1987 - 89, he traveled to the other parts of
the world alone for ethnic music and ancient music research. During
his stay in New York in the '89, he was involved in a multi-media
project called the "Psychedelic Plants Research Laboratory". Their audio-visual live performances called Multimedia
Visionquest, featuring electronic and ethnic music, video
drugs and trance dance. And they released an album "Mars Botanical
Garden" in 1989 under the name of "Psychedelic Plants Research Laboratory"(later, known as "Aurora Heads" mainly in the US). Fzono also played keyboards and theremin
in the Japanese underground progressive house music project "Far
East Acid House Quartet", a neo-hippie cult band
in 1988 - 1998. |
Fzono's first official solo album "Phosphorescent", a pioneering acid album influenced by the second summer of love and neo-hippie movement at that time, was released in 1988. With his second album Echoes (1990), a pioneering Symphobient album featuring some vintage instruments such as EMS and Moog modular synthesizer, Mellotron and theremin, he established his composition style. In the 1990s he released other "Symphobient" series albums "Ruins" (1993) and "Cathedral" (1995). In 1998 he released his 5th solo album "Cosmology".
In 2001, Fzono and his artistic collaboration partner Hypnotic Twin (David Laurenz and DJ Third Eye) established their own record label Lavalamp Records in NY, USA (Currently in Canada / Japan). In 2003, Fzono released a long-awaited new album entitled "Chronicle", classical-influenced suite featuring soprano, many choir and orchestra sounds, almost six years after his last album release. |
| In March 2006, Fzono's most popular album in 1990s "Cosmology"
is digitally remastered and to be reissued from Lavalamp Records.@ |
